The ECOWAS Volunteer Palliative Care nurse held a refresher course on nosocomial infection prevention at the Bo Government hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone on 20 December 2023.
The aim of of the course was to reduce the rise in surgical infection and prolonged hospitalization of patients and to equip the nurses in adhering to key principles of nosocomial prevention.
Donation of medical goods, such as bed linens, was also made to the High Dependency unit during this event, which helped to ensure that patients had a comfortable stay and reduced the risk of nosocomial infections.
It appeared to be a barrier to maintaining an aseptic technique, putting patients at risk for infections they might get while in the hospital. This was one approach to improving the provision of high-quality, safe healthcare.
