The ECOWAS Volunteer Programme French teachers in Kenema, Sierra Leone, Youssouf Adelowo and Idoko Blessing carried out a pet project consisting of renovating Combema's community primary school lavatory facility.
Enhancing the school’s infrastructure and creating a better learning environment are the project’s goals. To that end, the school’s dilapidated restrooms, which exposed the pupils especially the girls, to infections and other ailments linked to poor hygiene, including, cholera and diarrhea among many, may be curbed owing to the renovation.
To keep the remodeled restrooms in good working condition and to promote good hygiene, soaps, buckets, bailers and brooms were also donated to the school. Additionally, padlocks were also supplied to deter unauthorized individuals from vandalizing the toilets.
The renovated building was formally handed over to the head teacher and his vice. The school's administration, teachers, community members and the pupils could not contain their joy as they expressed their gratitude to the ECOWAS Volunteers Programme.
